Dear Trick or Treat Creator,
Hello my trick or treat creator! I’m so glad you chose to offer any of my requests—I’m so excited to see what you come up with, especially since this is my first time participating in this exchange and I especially love Halloween! As a head’s up, my letter tend to be fairly long and detailed as I often worry I’m not giving enough info, but please don’t take any of this as an expectation, rather see it as a resource you can refer to if you get stuck or need inspiration. I only want to make you feel comfortable, but feel free to ignore any of this (other than my DNWs, of course) and go with your gut instinct. I’m sure I’ll be happy with anything you produce!
I mostly use this journal as a private place to post thoughts I’m not comfortable posting on my tumblr, which is where I mostly hang out, making graphics and reblogging things—if you choose to visit, it’s good place to snoop to get a generalized glimpse at what I like.
In an effort to make my letter as skimmable as possible, here are some links to help guide you to whatever interests you and help you skip the rest.
LIKES & DNWs
A CHARM OF MAGPIES - KJ CHARLES || THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN - HOLLY BLACK
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: THE SERIES || GET OUT (2017) || HEREDITARY (2018) || RAW (2016)
THE ROANOKE GIRLS - AMY ENGEL || SHARP OBJECTS - GILLIAN FLYNN || THOROUGHBREDS (2017)
↳ General Things I Like: I am a very emotionally oriented person. I love exploring a character’s thoughts and feelings, what it is that makes that character tick and make the choices they do. I’d rather have purely character thought-piece over a complex well-plotted fic with no emotional heart or depth. I love relationships: their dynamics, how they support one another, how they relate to each other, how they interact, where their wants and needs match up, where they differ, how their different parts interconnect or pull-apart.
I adore friendships in all forms and I love exploring what it means to be friends and the bond between characters. I love emotional history and how that affects a relationship dynamic between characters. Friends-turned-lovers is a favorite trope of mine, as well as love/hate, enemies-turned-lovers dynamics. I love snark and banter and flirting, but I also love new relationship awkwardness, relationship negotiation, and getting-to-know-you bonding. For any relationship to happen, I want some connection at the base before it turns romantic or sexual. I love developing relationships: relationship conflicts after the characters got together, trying to figure out how to make things work, some things maybe not working at first, temporary breakups. If you’re dealing with a poly-relationship, I’d love to see how the characters deal with that new dynamic and how they adjust into their new roles, how the dynamic changes (for better or for worse). I love unlikely friendships/romances, complicated relationships, group dynamics, partnerships.
I also love fucked up, varying-degrees-of-unhealthy, too-close-for-comfort relationships. Codependent relationships, obsessive relationships, completely-fixated-on-the-other relationships. I love when a character is willing to literally let the world burn, should the world try to come between them and the person they love (romantically or platonically), choosing their partner above anyone else. I really love when this is all a choice, rather than conditioning (though I do love when this closeness is born from abusive homes and situations, with the two characters banding together, them-against-the-world). Two-halves-of-a-whole-person type of relationships are my weakness—I love dynamics where the other can’t function without the other and opt for self-destruction in the face of separation (via either substance abuse or moral/character disintegration), even leading to suicide ideation. Them being equally obsessive and fucked up, and extremely invested in their relationship is what I live for. Utter devotion is key.
I also enjoy something in between the two extremes—characters relying on each other and needing each other, making sure the other is okay, taking care of each other, especially in regards to trauma and/or mental illness. Basically I love messy, codependent relationships with dysfunctional people who love each other and are terrible to each other sometimes, but also healthy, loving, mutually supportive relationships, where people take care of each other and communicate with each other, and everything in between or in combination.
I really dig domesticity and what makes a home a home, and how being a family to each other plays into that and how the characters come together in that way. I adore makeshift families and kid!fic in any form (so long as the children are written realistically and not cute accessories—I love reading about the difficulties of parenting, how it changes the relationships, characters reacting to being a parent—especially if they came from an abusive home). I love cooking and doing chores, and quiet breakfast scenes over coffee or tea. If you want to add pets, that would be wonderful! (I love all kinds of animals, but cats have a special place in my heart).
I love porn and wouldn’t mind a PWP piece, if that’s where your heart takes you, but I’d prefer it to be emotionally anchored; not necessarily romantic, but something with a connection and a reason for it happening beyond two (or three!) pretty faces.
↳ Some of my kinks include: trust (I have a huuuge trust kink that can usually make most kinks work if the basis comes from how intensely two characters trust each other and their willingness to give themselves to the other person in every way, and vice versa), angry sex, fighting-that-leads-to-sex, powerplay, D/s (that’s more focused on taking care of each other than humiliation), switching/no set sexual “roles”, topping from the bottom, service kink (getting off on giving pleasure rather than receiving), oral sex, licking, fingering, dirty talk (please no humiliation), praise kink, teasing, hair-pulling, body worship, breast play/nipple play, sensory overload (being overwhelmed by sensations, being touched immediately after orgasm), biting/marking/scratching, begging, public sex, heat-of-the-battle sex, frantic sex, jealousy and possessiveness, bloodplay, voyeurism, bondage, somnophilia, size differences, partially-clothed or mostly-clothed sex, handjobs, rimming, frottage, intercrural, double-penetration, masturbation/fantasizing about the other before getting together, mutual masturbation, drunk or high sex (both the emotionally messy, dubcon-y, bad idea kind and the sloppily affectionate consensual kind), rough sex, characters who kink on violence and danger (gunplay, knifeplay, breathplay, exhibitionism, etc.), hatesex, scar kink, sex for comfort and solace, dressing and undressing, messy badly-negotiated (or unnegotiated) sexual desires, inexperience, sexuality exploration, kink exploration, first times, clothes kink (suits, uniforms, gloves, boots etc.), neat characters being disheveled for once; casual characters cleaning up nicely, clothes-sharing, choosing clothes for the other person as kink/foreplay, sex in other places than a bed: on tables, against walls, on the floor, on a chair, in the shower, making someone come without touching their genitals, messiness (sweat, come, blood, menstrual sex, etc.), competence kink (characters kinking on the skills set of another, i.e. Seth’s admiration/fixation on Richie cracking safes), oral fixation (smoking, fingersucking, shotgunning, etc.), sex where emotions are mixed, or difficult to acknowledge, or emotionally hurtful to acknowledge, sex that doesn't heal anybody's deep emotional wounds, moody messy melancholy sex.
I’d really love all of this to be paired with tenderness and sweetness, just little touches here and there: hand-holding during sex, forehead touching, petting or stroking hair, forehead/face kisses, snuggling and cuddling, nuzzling, hugs from behind, neck kisses, scar kissing. Lots of kissing in general is lovely—kissing all over the body as foreplay, kissing one’s partner in surprising places (i.e. a character’s feet, or the back of the knee, etc.). I love the “we like each other so much that we can’t stop touching each other in any way” trope a lot. Sharing food, sharing clothes, sharing beds. Sleep related things in general: comfort after a nightmare, falling asleep together, one character watching the other sleep, waking each other up for soft lazy morning sex. Characters feeling safe and cherished by the other. Simple casual intimacy is fantastic and very much appreciated.
↳ Random and miscellaneous things I love:
↳ DNWs: I don’t like radical AUs (unless specified), like coffee shop AU or college AUs. I have nothing really against them, but I prefer to read about characters in the canon setting.
I prefer not to read about excessive abuse, but I understand it’s inclusion if it’s part of a character’s backstory. I like reading about the aftereffects of abuse, of trauma, but not the actual traumatic events in detail. Torture or anything further than canon typical violence.
Extreme underage, especially with adults is deeply uncomfortable for me. I am okay with young-ish teenagers (14/15) experimenting with each other, but with my age differential ships, I’d prefer the younger character to be at least sixteen and no romanticization of the dynamic and acknowledgement of the inherent power dynamic at play.
Mentally ill or neurotypical characters treated as evil or terrible—it’s fine if they're experiencing ableism, but I don't want the whole fic to be about that.
No deathfic unless the characters die or have died in canon, or a villain is being killed. Referring to the major character deaths that occur in canon and exploring those after effects is okay, but otherwise, I’d rather not read it. I don’t consider it deathfic if someone dies and then comes back in the same fic.
Miscommunication as a plot point. Cheating/infidelity. Character bashing, ship bashing; if you don't like a character or a ship, please just keep their inclusion minimal, but don't remove them from the story entirely, especially if they're plot relevant.
My squicks are: parental or cross-gen incest (sibling or cousin incest is totally okay), bestiality (xenophilia in terms of sentient monsters, on the other hand, is encouraged), a/b/o, knotting, breeding, watersports, inflation, scat, sounding, or most hardcore kinks, vore, humiliation (sexual or otherwise), dehumanization, ageplay, 100% in D/s roles or D/s AUs, and rigid top/bottom roles (I prefer switching! But if you have a top/bottom preference for certain characters, that’s okay, I just rather it implied in the fic that’s not all they do), animal cruelty or animal death.
Non-con is a hardline trigger for me, so I’d rather avoid it unless it’s part of a character’s backstory (I’m okay with dub-con though—either messy and fucked up stuff with one character taking advantage of the other, or “we all got drunk and had sex together, whoops”).

↳ Random and miscellaneous things I love:
backstory, future fic, unreliable narrators, outsider POV adding new insight, outsider POV in general, snapshots, missing scene fics, character studies, missing scenes, codas, alternate canons, semi-alternate universes, and canon divergences, and/or slight changes to canon, “what if” AUs epistolary fic, or a “five times something happened” type of fic, or a “five things you didn’t know,” fics that start in the middle with flashbacks, play with format, if you want happy endings, bittersweet endings, downer endings—whatever works for your story: no happy domestic fics with sudden swerves into death fic, but if something is generally melancholy to begin with, go with the downer ending road trips, small towns, traveling, a sense of place, in between moments and in transit, a strong sense of a setting—I really love the aesthetics of being on the road, having to stay in crappy motels and living in and out of suitcases communicating without words established relationships/friendships, and domesticity with slice-of-life that details their routine or daily life the intimacy of living together for a while, or people learning to share space—people sharing household chores or cooking food for each other, people having silly arguments with each other over routine things or watching movies together awkward wooing, or when people can’t say things in words so they say it in action slow burns, UST, people reconnecting again, getting back together, learning to love each other again, pining for each other reunions, a strong sense of history between characters intense protectiveness, will-kill-for-you-without-thinking protectiveness—or the flipside, will-lay-down-my-life self-sacrificial type of protectiveness trust—either people who trust each other or people with trust issues surprising intellect from unsuspecting characters small but meaningful moments bad weather, quiet rainy days, autumn, the ocean, the desert, the woods, libraries, characters reading to each other, sense of time passing, the change of seasons, being snowed in autumn specific: taking a walk among falling leaves, or enjoying a hot drink together, cooking together, carving a pumpkin, full moons against a cloudy sky, apples, candy, watching horror movies, use of costumes or masquerade balls, mystery and intrigue, noir aesthetics, magic halloween and all the traditions it entails: trick'r'treating, parties to the macabre of seances and focus on the dead found families complicated relationships and internal conflicts—I like relationships where not everything is clear cut between people, when conflict stems from personal issues or clashing, rather than something external, where there’s angst and anger between these characters, but also genuine love and fondness awful people being tender to each other, terrible people who don’t know how to love, or trying very hard to be good to each other (with some or no success) hurt/comfort of ANY KIND—illness or wounded or just having a bad day, any kind of physical or emotional bad stuff happening to characters (either the main point of the fic or in the background/stemming from canon events), and characters looking after one another, especially tending to injuries, patching the other up, assisting with a drug recovery, to helping each other cope with PTSD or loss, helping them day to day—just a person taking care of someone as a practical way to show love darkfic of any kind—psychological mind games, body horror, creepy obsessive claustrophobic dynamics, erotic horror, desperate broken violent lives of crime, break-it fics (unhappy or unresolved endings are okay!) focus on mental illness or trauma, such as panic attacks, character adjusting to each other’s needs, messy coping mechanisms and “bad victim” traits exploring physical disabilities (losing sight/hearing/the ability to a speak) irrational ugly emotions, like jealousy or resentment or paranoia claustrophobic and isolation stories, be it physical or emotional isolation; apocalypse settings, post-apocalypse settings, zombies or otherwise, themes of isolation angst: self-doubts, guilt, shame, nightmares, fears, self-destructive tendencies, alcohol/drug abuse, character-appropriate self-harm, suicide ideation dark romanticism, like necrophilia as an expression of grief or clinging to one's love one's body parts; heavy gothic atmosphere monsters of any kind—vampires, werewolves, merpeople, witches, ghosts, humanity as monstrosity, the “monster” being more human than the “human”, the interplay between where monstrosity begins and humanity ends, struggles with monsterhood; I love human/monster pairings where the human is fascinated with their otherness and cherishes their monster partner characters who aren’t sure how to “people” properly, characters who aren’t good at being “human.” Inhumanity, especially when love is demonstrated or expressed differently, but still love horror themes: body horror, eldritch abominations, haunted houses, restless spirits, people turning into monsters, cannibalism, undead people (vampires and revenants mainly; I do not care for brainless zombies unless in apocalypse settings), turning into a monster, serial killers, etc. psychological horror, being driven to madness, because of anything: scientific research, love/obsession, being tortured/haunted/possessed, etc. body horror through transformation, or going through unusual changes, al la cronenberg style body horror, eroticized body horror fairytale themes: retellings, use of fairytales as a structure, or a fairytale structured story, darker takes on folklore, fairytale logic reincarnation or soulmates, with the relationship feeling old and constant, or the messy complications that come with being soulmates, “wrong” soulmates, character reliving the same time loops, losing each other and colliding with each other and missing each other completely, past lives, epic-across-time stories
↳ DNWs: I don’t like radical AUs (unless specified), like coffee shop AU or college AUs. I have nothing really against them, but I prefer to read about characters in the canon setting.

A Charm of Magpies Series - K. J. Charles
↳ Characters: Stephen Day, Lucien Vaudrey
→ Domesticity! I’d love to see anything about Lucien and Stephen making a home together, perhaps adopting a pet or taking in some unwanted kids to raise together.
→ Lucien getting to spoil Stephen and finally get him out of London, the pair of them traveling the world together, Stephen meeting other people with magic and how other cultures treat them.
→ Magical creatures! Do vampires, werewolves, selkies, etc. exist in this universe? Feel free to draw from folklore of the area. I would love any casefic-style story of them dealing with something other than another practitioner.
→ Do practitioners celebrate All Hallows Eve? Does Stephen share those rituals with Lucien?
→ Blood magic! I love the grotesque, intense body horror of the novels when it comes to magic and I would love to see that explored more, especially when it comes to Stephen drawing from Lucien. On a sexier side, I would love to see Stephen drinking blood from Lucien and getting kind of a magical high.
→ The books veer towards a darker tone and I would love anything that explores that kind of atmosphere, how people become consumed by power and do terrible things for power, how that affects Stephen and his mental state.
→ Lucien asking Stephen to mind control/fluence him in bed, how that request is handled, how Lucien feels being mind controlled by request, how Stephen allowing himself to do that.
→ For a gen option, I would be interested in reading about either of their backstories, Stephen trying to survive after he’d been cast out or Lucien working as a sex worker, trying to make a living wage.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown - Holly Black
↳ Characters: Aiden, Gavriel | Thorn of Istra, Tana Bach
→ Roadtrip! I am a sucker for the roadtrip narrative leading towards a sense of self discovery, so I’d love anything that involves Tana ending up turning and asking Gavriel to take her away as she adjusts, Aiden comes along for the ride, does he have anything better to do?
→ As much as they’re probably all averse to parties at this point, I would love Tana and Aiden dragging Gavriel out to a Halloween or costume party for the irony.
→ I ship the three of them together so much, so if you are interested in developing their dynamic as a poly triad, I would love that.
→ Anything H/C with Gavriel helping Tana or Aiden adjust, or Tana or Aiden trying to comfort Gavriel about his past and clear PSTD.
→ A darker look at Tana ending up turning, how she handles the bloodlust, her first kill and the aftermath.
→ GAVRIEL BACKSTORY. I want to know everything, all the gory messy horrible details.
→ I really loved the dynamic between Tana and Aiden, where they would kiss other people while the other watched to make them jealous. I would love it is that game got amplified and a sort of competition over getting Gavriel.
→ Aiden turning is fascinating because he is so hedonistic and I would love an exploration of how that can become destructive.
From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series
↳ Characters: Scott Fuller, Richard Gecko, Seth Gecko, Freddie Gonzalez, Paloma Gutierrez, Manola Jimenez, Carlos Madrigal, Santanico Pandemonium, Ximena Vasconcelos, Venganza Verdugo
I ship a lot of combinations of all these characters, both romantically and platonically, so I thought it best to list both out front to help. You can write any of these and I would adore it!
Romantic Ships: Seth/Richie, Seth/Richie/Kisa, Seth/Richie/Freddie, Seth/Richie/Scott, Seth/Richie/Ximena, Seth/Richie/Kisa/Manola, Seth/Richie/Kisa/Carlos, Seth/Freddie, Seth/Scott, Seth/Kisa, Richie/Freddie, Richie/Scott, Richie/Kisa, Carlos/Kisa, Carlos/Scott, Carlos/Seth, Carlos/Freddie, Carlos/Kisa/Freddie, Carlos/Kisa/Paloma, Carlos/Kisa/Richie, Kisa/Paloma, Kisa/Manola, Kisa/Paloma/Manola, Kisa/Ximena, Kisa/Venganza, Venganza/Ximena, Freddie/Ximena
Platonic Ships: Kisa&Scott, Richie&Venganza, Richie&Paloma
→ I really love the mythology of the show and would love anything that broadens it and explores it more in depth. I would love any inclusions of more mesoamerican folklore, or more creatures inspired by mesoamerican folklore, like werewolves or witches or zombies, or whatever you feel like!
→ Do culebras celebrate Dia de los Muertos, given how they are the undead, but they clearly have lost people? What do the Geckos do on Halloween? Is there a memorable heist? Any traditions for Scott? I would love anything holiday themed as Halloween is my very favorite.
→ I love any sort of domesticity, so if you feel like writing Kisa/Manola backstory fic of them making a home with each other, or Seth and Richie settling down after the events of the show or Scott creating a found family with his Fanglorious crew, I would love any of that. Freddie bringing Ximena home to meet Margaret and them forming a poly family!
→ Reverse any death! Give any dead character a second chance at life and explore what happens to them.
→ I ship a lot of darker dynamics and I would love an extended look at them. Give me Carlos and Scott during the scope of S2, their messed up mentor/protege dynamic that is based on Scott’s need for approval and affection and a sense of belonging, and Carlos using that to his advantage. Kisa and Paloma are in this place caught between abuser and God-figure, the place of creation in one’s own image a destructive form salvation, I wanted so much more; throw in Carlos and you get two monsters using Paloma as a bargaining chip between them. ANYTHING that explores Seth and Richie’s intense fixated codependency that can consume anything in its path if they’re not together.
→ Shadow!Richie was a revelation and I really want more of that concept, perhaps with the ending of S3 being Richie did not come back, but his shadow self did and Seth has to slowly figure that out. Or maybe shadow!Richie takes advantage of his brother all tied up and helpless, pushing Seth’s boundaries. On the flipside, I am fascinated with the idea of what Seth would be like as a culebra, which I imagine would bad. Please give me out of control newborn culebra Seth!
→ I would love any backstory fic, which I put here because all the characters com from dark origins. I would love to know more about Venganza’s ascent to where she is where me meet her from slavery—I especially love her parallels to Kisa. The show is ultimately about broken people continuing cycles of abuse I really am interested in that concept.
Get Out (2017)
↳ Characters: Rose Armitage, Chris Washington, Rodney "Rod" Williams
→ Post-movie! I would love anything that explores how Chris deals with the aftermath of what happened with Rod helping him recover, perhaps some H/C between them. I do ship them a lot, but if you don’t, that’s fine, I would be happy with friendship fic for these two!
→ Another post-movie idea: what do Chris and Rod do with the information they have? Do they try and stop the organization? Do they create an underground railroad of sorts, saving victims, maybe using a podcast to get the information out?
→ On a shippier side: how did Rod and Chris meet? How long have they been friends? I want the backstory! Rod is so devoted to getting Chris out and I want to know where they loyalty came from.
→ For Rose, I specifically really want to explore her mindset. I really do not want her to be portrayed as sympathetic or likable as I really am fascinated (and horrified) by how unrelentingly evil she is. Her manner of ensnaring her “prey” is so unsettling and creepy and I would like to know more about she became this. Like, the girl keeps pictures of her victims on her bedroom wall like trophies.
→ Second post movie prompt fits here as well, considering the dark subject matter and how deep this organization goes, how much more can Chris and Rod uncover? Go as dark as you like here!
→ I’d love more exploration of Chris’s headspace and his backstory. It’s not a happy beginning, but I’d love to see more of how that shaped him as a person. I would also like to explore his headspace immediately after the events of the movie, how he processes what he went through and what he did to survive it.
Hereditary (2018)
↳ Characters: Annie Graham, Charlie Graham, Peter Graham, Ellen Leigh, Paimon
→ I could not stop thinking about this movie after I watched it, it kind of crawled under my skin and lives there now. It’s not the happiest of films, so there will be less treat prompts, but I would very much like anything that explores the Peter and Charlie dynamic pre-film. I was watching the special features on the bluray recently and the actors talked a bit about how Peter and Charlie are close because they both understand what the other needs, like Peter gets that Charlie likes space and understands her art makes her happy. I’d love anything that explores their relationship before the events of the film.
→ God, this film. I am fascinated with how the film gives you all the answers right there at the beginning, but they’re so mundane the ending blindsides you. I would love to explore the mindset of Ellen and how she sacrificed her family to this demon and why. It’s heavily implied she tried to so it to her own son before he committed suicide, with the line of “trying to put other people inside him”. I would love anything that explores how Annie possibly knew, but tried to rationalize it away, or was in deep denial.
→ Charlie Charlie Charlie. I love this weird child who happens to be the reincarnation of a king of Hell. I headcanon that Charlie knew who she was and what her grandmother wanted from her, which made her uncomfortable and upset. I’d love anything that explores her POV as her grandmother is grooming her for this role or perhaps how she lives with Paimon inside her or how she IS Paimon. I’d also love to see her experience of where she went when she “died.”
→ PETER. I’d love anything that explores his relationship with Annie further, given how there is so much unresolved issues there. But I am also especially interested if he is fully gone at the end, or if he and Charlie are coexisting in the same body. I would love them to both be there and how they deal with that, and what people expect of them. If you want to throw in Paimon as a separate entity, that would be amazing as well.
Raw (2016)
↳ Characters: Alexia, Justine, Father, Mother
→ THAT ENDING. I want to know everything about Justine and Alexia’s parents. I want to know how they met and fell in love and how he came to understand and accept what she was. The scars on his body are so fascinating to me because he literally has allowed her to bite him over and over. Give me that fucked up romance.
→ I really love the worldbuilding and how mundane everything seems— under it’s not. What are the women in this family? Are they a kind of werewolf? I just want to know. Please expand on the framework provided by the film.
→ Alexia and Justine seemed to be close until Justine became “of age.” I would love to see them in happier times.
→ The dynamic between Justine and Alexia is so vicious and intense and complicated, so of course I ship it. I would love to see what happens when the subtext becomes text and what pushes them over the edge of that.
→ I really loved the gore in the film and like the icky gross aspects of what Justine is, so anything horror related when it comes to that would be amazing. Go as dark as you like. I would like to see the more monstrous aspects of what Justine is and how she handles that—or doesn’t.
→ What happens when someone fully gives into their urges? I am totally down for a bleaker look at what that would do to them. Maybe Alexia pushes Justine there and they go on a horrible cannibalistic road trip.
The Roanoke Girls - Amy Engel
↳ Characters: Allegra Roanoke, Lane Roanoke
→ If you are even offering for this book, you’re already amazing as I often feel like I am one of five people who have read it and felt haunted by it. This book is heavily triggering given the nature of the material of the book, so I don’t really think there is much I can ask for that is lighter, but I really would love ANY AU where Allegra lives or gets out of that house, goes with Lane when Lane leaves, or comes when Lane writes to her. I would love to see the two of them helping each out and trying to recover from what happened.
→ I would just love to see them having adventures during the time that Lane lived with Allegra and seeing more of their bond grow.
→ For a cute Halloween prompt: what does the town do for Halloween, maybe Lane stayed until then and saw, or Allegra and her created matching costumes.
→This book is so heavy, and the narrative makes you feel the weight of the pain and the history within the house. That house is haunted, regardless if it's by the past or actual ghosts. For this prompt, I would like to see actual ghosts of the lost Roanoke girls coming to haunt Lane and Allegra, trying to stray them off the same path they went down.
→ I ship Lane and Allegra a lot and would love to see Allegra try and pursue Lane because of her unhealthy ideas of what familial love is, while Lane gives in because she is so love starved, and Allegra feels safer to her than their father/grandfather. I would rather he not be involved and just a focus on them seeking out a sense of comfort and understanding with each other, in all the wrong ways.
→ An internal look at both Allegra and Lane’s POVs, but mostly Allegra as she remains an enigma throughout the novel until it all falls into place. I would love to see more of her POV and just dig more into her trauma and how she copes with it.
Sharp Objects - Gillian Flynn
↳ Characters: Amma Crellin, Camille Preaker
→ First off, I have seen the HBO adaptation, and I adore it, so feel free to include anything from the series. I loved the atmosphere and Eliza Scalen was a revelation.
→ I would really really love anything from the time period where Amma goes to live with Camille. I know that is a rocky time period and has its ups and downs, but Camille so desperately wanted to try and fix what had been done to Amma, and I love them during that time period because there’s so much hope they can get past this (until the gut punch).
→ Alternatively, I would love something that explores Camille coming to visit Amma at the detention center and staying in consistent contact with her, and hoping that she can maybe help rehabilitate her. I would also love to see future fic where Amma is released and how they deal with their relationship now that all the secrets have been revealed.
→ I would love anything after the novel for Camille, especially if she continues her correspondence with John, how she deals with the fall out of the Amma revelation, what she does to keep going.
→ I have a lot of shippy feelings for Camille and Amma, but for the most part, I view sexual dynamic as one-sided from Amma’s POV and I love how much of her emotions get tangled up in one enough and it twists how she feels. I would love Amma’s POV on Camille and her hero worship, but also resentment, but ultimately her intense fixation and possessiveness of her. I would love to explore what goes through her head when she looks at Camille.
→ Alternatively, more exploration of the murders! How did she get Kelsey and Jodes to help her? Her headspace that drove her to murder?
→ I’d love an AU where Camille doesn’t turn Amma in and she takes Amma essentially on the run, even though there is no one actively looking for her, Camille is trying to keep her moving to keep her from killing other girls. Go as dark as you want, push Camille’s boundaries. I would love to see her trying to cover up when Amma slips and Amma trying to feign apology, but she is never sorry.
→ If you wanted to make Amma an actual monster, like werewolf or vampire, I would love to see how that plays out. Maybe Marian is really a ghost. This story is so haunting and Flynn has said it’s a dark modern fairytale that relies on fairy tale logic, so lean into that hard if you want.
Thoroughbreds (2017)
↳ Characters: Amanda, Lily
→ Fix-it fic! I would love to see Lily regretting her decisions and missing Amanda, so she works out a plan to get her out—legally or illegally, up to you, but I am a sucker for roadtrip AUs and it would be so interesting to see the two of them in a Thelma and Louise-style on-the-run setting and how they change to suit their circumstance.
→ Lily chooses to act against her plan and does not kill her stepfather, but because of the situation and the almost attempt, they get caught and get sent to the boarding school for troubled girls. Together.
→ Backstory fic! I would love to know what their dynamic was like as kids, if it was any different or if Amanda had changed when growing into a teenager. Amanda seems to have held onto a fascination and I would love to explore that, especially during the time they weren’t friends.
→ Picture this: Lily decides not to roofie Amanda and they decide to kill her stepfather together, but panic when they’re done, so they steal all the money they can, pack some bags and head out on the run, perhaps becoming criminals in the process to stay alive.
→ I would kill for a serial killer AU, pun intended. It can be either they kill Lily’s stepfather and get a taste for it, or they both were doing it before they reconnected. I would love to see how they’d translate, especially with Amanda being outwardly “crazy,” but ultimately Lily is more cold and morally complicated.
→ The dynamic between Lily and Amanda is so complex and messy, I love the power dynamics of how much power Lily has over Amanda because of how Amanda sees herself as emotionless, but she is full of emotion for Lily. I would love to see this pushed and how Lily likes having that power and control. But on the flipside, I like how much Amanda cracks that ice princess facade of Lily’s and pushes her to act out. More of this please.
